To enable efficient processing and storage of such data sets a tessellation scheme may be adopted. The Hierarchical Triangular Mesh (HTM) and the Hierarchical Equal Area isoLatitude Pixelisation (HEALPix) schemes are two popular schemes each with software tools available to exploit their particular properties. The initial drivers behind these two schemes are quite different but as their use continues the complimentary facilities of each package will become more relevant. Here we describe the motivation and facilities of HEALPix and HTM, we ask if it is possible to combine these schemes or make use of them in a combined manner and say why we may wish to do this.

Indexing astronomical database tables using HTM and HEALPix
In various astronomical projects it is crucial to have coordinates indexed tables. All sky optical and IR catalogues have up to 1 billion objects that will increase with forthcoming projects. Also partial sky surveys at various wavelengths can collect information (not just source lists) which can be saved in coordinate ordered tables. Selecting a sub-set of these entries or cross-matching them ...
متن کاملVariations in the sky brightness during a lunar eclipse
A total lunar eclipse is conjectured to have influence on the physical conditions of an environmental area, particularly on the brightness of the sky. The phenomenon might also be relevant on weather parameters change on Earth, such as temperature, humidity and pressure, though a straightforward correlation is not easy to establish. This work mainly aims at measuring the brightness of the sky a...

Within the scope of the Planck IDIS (Integrated Data Information System) project we have started to develop the data model for time-ordered data and full-sky maps. The data model is part of the Data Management Component (DMC), a software system designed according to a three-tier architecture which allows complete separation between data storage and processing. The DMC is already being used for ...
متن کاملDeveloping a Tool for Analysing and Generating the fittest Urban Morphology based on Sky View Factor and Insolation: With a Case Study on Yazd
Urban morphology, including buildings’ typology and their configuration, affects sky view factor and insolation, which are two of the most influential parameters in urban microclimate. These become even more important in extreme environmental conditions. In this research, challenge was to generate various rule based urban morphologies in a parametric environment. Then, to evaluate them based on...
متن کاملFast Clustering Analysis of Inhomogenous Megapixel CMB Maps
Szapudi et al. (2001) introduced the method of estimating angular power spectrum of the CMB sky via heuristically weighted correlation functions. Part of the new technique is that all (co)variances are evaluated by massive Monte Carlo simulations, therefore a fast way to measure correlation functions in a high resolution map is essential. This letter presents a new algorithm to calculate pixel ...
